Driver Qualifications:
1. You must be at least 23 years of age. 2. You must have a valid Colorado drivers license for at least 90 days. 3. At the time of your interview, you must bring a current motor vehicle record showing 3 or more years of driving history (in the United States) with you.
We will run a Colorado background check at a cost of $20 by the applicant. We will check this for criminal, drug, alcohol and motor vehicle related offenses. (If you have had a previous out of state license, there will be an additional $10 for the out of state motor vehicle record). Your accident history will be taken into consideration.
To be contracted with Denver Yellow Cab, your motor vehicle record can have No more than 4 points in the last year, and No more than 8 points in the last 2 years.
4. We will not accept ANY Drug and/or Alcohol related offenses!
5. You must possess a good working knowledge of the Denver Metropolitan area.
6. You must present a Neat and Clean appearance at all times while driving a Yellow Cab (in accordance with out CODE OF CONDUCT and the Denver International Airport Policy).
7. You will be serving the public in your capacity as a taxi driver; therefore, you must be able to Read, Write, and Understand the English language.
8. When an applicant wants to apply for a driving position, he/she will be given our application website. If the applicant has driven in another state they will also be required to produce a driving record from any and all previous states at that time.
Upon successfully completing the required documents on the application site, you will be given a prompt calendar where you can select a date and time to come in for an interview. Please bring your current motor vehicle record, driver’s license, social security card and green card if applicable.
9. You must be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical. Once the applicant has been accepted by Denver Yellow Cab, we will send the applicant to obtain a DOT physical. The physical is at the applicant’s expense and therefore may be obtained at the doctor of their choice. However, the doctor must be authorized to do DOT physicals. Our recommended DOT physician charges $45.
10. We will provide the applicant with an application for a Herdic License from the city. This application must be filled out and notarized before taking it to the city. This license will also be at the applicant’s expense and will cost $75. To get a Herdic from the city, the applicant must take his/her Herdic application, 2-character references, his/her DOT card, background check, and driving record with them to the city offices. The applicant must pass an examination covering city knowledge and other aspects of the taxi industry before the city will issue this license. This will take up to 10 business days. Examinations are only given on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 9:00 A.M., 11:00 A.M., and 2:00 P.M. No one will be allowed to enter after the exam has started. If you are late, you will be asked to wait until the next exam. The only materials allowed for the exam are Denver map books and Denver street guides.

After all of the above steps are completed, the applicant will be required to attend and complete a training session, which includes:
Driver Orientation Sensitivity Training Communications Training Ride Around Defensive Driving Class Road Test
On the first day of orientation, the applicant will be required to pay for their Fingerprint screen which is $15.
Each applicant will be given a sign off sheet. This sign off sheet must be signed at the end of each session. No applicant will be hired until all sessions have been signed off.
After the applicant has completed the training session he/she must make an appointment with the Driver Relations department to come in and complete the remainder of the paperwork and be assigned a driver number. The completion of the paperwork takes about 1 hour and will be done on a one on one basis. Appointments for this can be made Monday through Friday between the hours of 9AM and 3PM.
All drivers are required to own a current map book. Current is defined as less than 2 years old. If you do have a map book you will be required to get one. They are available at Denver Yellow Cab for $25.
